He helped others live a more enriched life...

My son Daniel took his last breath in July 2020 at age 37. While tubing on a lake in Michigan, he sustained major trauma to his brain, which left him in a coma. He was in ICU for several days before being taken off of the respirator. Daniel was a donor, and he would be pleased to know that his organ and tissue donations helped others live a more enriched life. Daniel leaves behind his son, Enoch, and many family and friends who love him.

Daniel’s entire life was laced with colour…painting outside the lines, and making everything his own. Dan loved drawing and painting. He had an amazing eye for composition and drew from his heart and soul. As a self-taught musician, he adored playing the drums, but guitars were his real passion. He had quite the collection.

Daniel was an analog dude living in a digital world. He was tactile, sensitive, caring, loving and had a huge heart. He loved people. And people were drawn to him. He’d introduce new friends to me by saying “mother, this is my new best friend…” and to him, that was absolutely true. He was loyal to his connections. He initiated phone calls, keeping in touch with friends and family. He especially adored talking to his grandmas, and they cherished their time with him. Daniel had a way of making you feel like you were his only priority. When he was with you, he was 100% there.

Daniel was organic, he was raw and sometimes unfiltered. He wasn’t trying to be anything he knew he wasn’t. He didn’t have to, what he was was genuine…he wasn’t perfect, but he lived in his skin very well.

When life gave Daniel lemons, he tried to paint them gold! Be at peace my baby…until we meet again.

I only had the privilege of knowing Deege as a young boy. But I knew he was special from the start. Unique not only in his name, but his personality. His loyalty to his family is generational in that he shares that same tribute that you share with the rest of your family Denise. A close knit love that surpasses life. Bless you for your ongoing tribute to your wonderful son.

Daniel my precious grandson, How I miss your calls. Daniel called me about every two weeks always with the same greeting. “Hello grandma this is your favorite grandson calling”. My reply was always “you are my favorite DANIEL”. Laughter followed…since Daniel was my only grandson named Daniel. Conversation was a mixture of current, past and future memories and thoughts of life and living. Such a wonderful young man inside out who loved family, friends and His Heavenly Father, Jesus. I’ll see you again when we are reunited in Heaven. Grandma Cleo

Dan was more than a cousin for me. I looked up to him, everything he did was cool in my eyes. I sharpied my nails black in grade school because I saw him do it once. I got teased for it but I challenged them all because "my cousin Dan did it" and that made it cool. He was the brother that liked all the things I did without tease. I wanted to be like him. Before the end I never understood that he also wanted to be like me. He wanted people to be happy when he was around them because that made him happy. Dan didn't know or understand the words selfish or arrogant; he didn't know the concept of being self-serving. My cousin Dan was many things but mostly he was genuine. TRUE BLUE. Dan was my guy. My buddy. My comrade. He was "the balls". Infinitely interesting, genuine, pure, kind, FUCKING COOL. Dan, was the coolest guy I've ever known and he never knew. He wouldn't believe it anyway. I'll forever miss my cousin. I'll miss his comments and his dry jokes. I'll miss getting him in trouble when we drink Hamm's until 6am when he has to be at work at 7am. I will forever miss him being my savior at family reunions. Dan, my cousin, my brother, can never be replicated. Dan, my cousin, my brother, will ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED.

Daniel was a donor, giving everything he had as a final show of love for other people. Metro Health, along with Gift of Life Michigan made this Honor Walk possible during the covid lockdown. It was an amazing tribute to Daniel and his family. I'll never forget this moment and the overwhelming flood of emotions on this day.
