Even in darkness, there was a light she left behind...

Marissa “Roo” was very dedicated to volunteering at animal shelters, foster programs and many other community programs. Roo, still a teenager, was a bright, compassionate rising star herself.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck October 2014 when Marissa “Roo” Pummill left this world behind her.

Her passing was overwhelming. It devastated family, friends and the community, and still weighs heavy on the hearts of us all.

In true selflessness, Roo was an Organ Donor. Even in darkness there was light she left behind in the multiple lives saved by her gracious gift, 6 to be exact. She is irreplaceable and dearly missed. Kellye (mom) was lucky enough to meet one of Roo’s Lung recipients in California and has been corresponding with 5 others through the Donor Network of Arizona.

I did not know her personally, but I’ve read her story. Stories like hers are the reason I’m an organ donor. Even if I can’t live on, some one else can. She must have had a huge heart and I wish I could have known her in life. She saved six lives and is a hero.

I did not personally know Roo but I use to watch her play flyball with her dog, Ozzie. Now I play on a team with her mom Kellye...whom I adore. Such an amazing, compassionate woman. Because of her and In honor of Roo I just signed onto donate life.

I was against organ donations for very selfish reasons. After learning about Roo through a facebook post and reading her story I realized how selfish I was. I signed up right away to become an organ donor and can only hope that one day my death will be the life for others.

Roo was my friend, and now after her death, her mom Kellye, is one of my dearest friends. I became a donor after her passing. When my son Nicholas got his permit recently, we were standing at the window and I said, "Did you check your box honey?". He said "Yes Mom, I checked it for Roo." He is almost 18 so I know these things mean a lot to him. Roo was a very special person and has left a tremendous legacy behind her of family and friends who loved her. Kellye and her Pomeranian Ozzy makes sure that she lives on for all of us.

Thanks to an unknown hero liver donor from AZ, I received a liver in October 2014, God bless her and family for choosing to being a donor. I tried to find my donors family so I could thank them with no luck..may her memory continue on as bright as the hero she is.

Marissa "Roo" was so much to so many people, and animals. She was goofy laughter, she was my Idol buddy. She was very creative, giving of her time to fostering, smart, beautiful and most of all loved by all her family and friends. Most of all she "raised" Ozzy to be more human than dog :) Her organ donation has reached 6 souls, and that Is a miracle . Love you Roo!

I am so honored to have known Marissa Pummill She was beautiful and selfless. Eager to help make the world a better place one step at a time. Unfortunately for her and all of us, her steps were cut short. When she departed this world she left behind more than memories or even a legacy. She selflessly gave the gift of live to several other people who got a second chance to live on through her good graces. She should be held in the highest regard, and live on in our memories as a hero, and a role model for all of us. She was stronger in her weakest moment than many of us could ever think to be. We love you Marissa Pummill. You already are and will forever continue to be an inspiration not only to me and my family, but also to people all over this world. All my love and admiration is yours forever. We all miss you so much. You will never be forgotten. Love you, Julie Watson Matheson, Kim Matheson Kyle Taulton.

I have always been an organ doner and I have always admired any one who is one. Roo was two young to be taken from this world, however she gave the gift of life by simply checking a small box and because of that her memory still lives on through the recipients her organs saved. She will never be forgotten because of that and her kindness for all the small creatures in this world. Our thoughts are with you always

Marissa was on our flyball team. She was a great dog trainer and artist. I miss her everyday. I think of her everyday. It is because of her and Kellye that I became a donar. Before I never thought about it or gave it much thought. Marissa lives on in our memories but also in life helping others live. ❤️ Meagan

Although I didn't know Roo in life, I get to know her through her mom. I inspired by her mom's strength, devotion and her amazing sense of humor that shines through even in the most difficult moments. Through Roo's mom I know of the wonderful animal rights work Roo did, what a beautiful young woman and spirit Roo was, and the six lives she helped to save through organ donation. My heart goes out to all who love Roo and miss her with sincerity. I understand, as I miss someone I love also. I am now registered on the organ donor site, and honored to do this in honor of Roo's life and her mom who I am blessed to call friend.

Roo's selflessness has saved 6 lives as an organ donor.I would like to think her story and her mom's devotion to helping others and keeping her memory alive has helped the troubled ones along this journey that Kellye has to call her new life... Without her Roo... There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about her, and Kellye. She was such a wonderful person. Even in her struggle, she always tried to help the helpless. I love her, and miss her dearly.

Marissa was an amazing young woman. She was a huge animal lover and would do whatever it took to get help for a lost or hurt furry friend. She is still that giving soul by being an organ donor. Not only for those who received an organ but also the ones who have signed up to be a donor because of her. Marissa will be GREATLY missed. Anne L.
